About Rachel

In 2012 I received my Bachelor of Arts in K-12 Art Education with an emphasis in painting at the University of Northern Iowa in the United States.

After completing my student teaching in New Zealand's beautiful Kapiti Coast at Kapiti College, I began my international teaching career instructing K-12 visual arts at the International Programs School in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. In 2014 I moved to China and began teaching at my first IB school, instructing Early Years, PYP and MYP visual arts at the EtonHouse International School in Wuxi, China. I then moved to the Suzhou Singapore International School in 2016 to teach IB PYP visual arts in Suzhou, China. Since 2019 I have been teaching IB PYP visual arts at the Canadian International School in Singapore. I am now moving to New Zealand with my husband where we plan to teach in the future.

I love my job as an art educator! Working with children and nurturing their unique sense of creativity is a wonderful experience. I truly believe that art is important for students of all ages to gain a better understanding of themselves and the world around them. As a teacher of inquiry learning, I strive to encourage each and every individual to explore a variety of mediums in their own way. I create a comfortable and inspiring environment within my classroom where students can freely express and challenge themselves to be creative risk-takers. My students are expected to be dedicated, knowledgeable, and passionate about their work. Most of all, I want my students to be proud of who they are and enthusiastic about what they can create!
